Ed Kashi is on a global mission to introduce photography to children.

On A Positive Note: Man Teaches Photography to Underserved Children

We live in a time where some say social media is tearing people apart that it's sometimes more detrimental than helpful. While One New Jersey man is proving that photos like those we often see on social media apps really bring people together. He's a photographer and he says he wants his art to mean more than just pretty photographs. He wants to make a real difference in the world. Now that man has traveled the world to teach photography to Children in countries like Uganda and Jordan. And now he's helping to showcase their incredible work. Take a look pictures from the page, the fragility, the hope of humanity from the eyes of Children. And a teacher named Ed Ed Kashi is a photographer with National Geographic Explorer. His life's work has taken him around the world and down the block in my work, I'm looking to have impact on the world, not just produce images that are beautiful. Some of his proudest work is teaching camps in places like Jordan and Uganda, India and New Jersey. Over the past 20 years, 3000 students, mostly teenagers have been taught to take photographs, lots of photographs. More than 2.5 million around the world. You know, where you have a 14, 15, 16 year old kid, maybe they've never picked up a camera before. And then they make these magical images in the Fall National Geographic will release a compilation of some of those images in a book called Photo Camp Stories. The book will include self portraits by Newark natives, Naj Wyn and America Navarette. I remember America. She had a very good eye. Jacob Amaro was part of the Newark photo camp in 2018. Now 22 years old Jacob is studying to be a journalist at Rutgers Newark. When I think back that class, it was really a formative experience and it's the reason it kind of, you know, cemented my love for photography. My love for journalism. Jacob was a great example of someone who's very smart and very switched on. Jacob shared one of his favorite photos from the class, a portrait of his sister in the middle of a long day at work you can see in her expression just all these, all these years of hard work, but she has had to work so hard to get to where she is. And so I showcased that. So I really do think it's just our love of telling stories and bringing stories to life in a world. Ed sees leaving some people behind tremendous disparity and imbalance within humanity right now. It's really to bring out their stories and teach us about their lives. And what happens is often miraculous photo camp. Stories will be available in November. We'll talk about a story that just proves that people are good. Wow.
