Cheddar News Celebrates Halloween

Welcome back to Halloween at Cheddar News Tis the season to keep us all amused with creepy decor costumes and candy. Cheddar staff kept their childhood photos handy. Pumpkins go and superheroes, please. The frightens make us go weak at the knees. And for three Cheddar hosts Precious Memories. So join us to greet a scary demon, a spooky witch and a princess. So sweet happy Halloween. If you can't already tell, we have each recreated our favorite childhood Halloween costumes. I'm a devil. I think I was about 15 years old that in Queens going to a Halloween party at someone's house. What about you, Michelle? Well, I was a, a witch and I think I was about six or seven. My parents let me pick my costume. I was definitely kind of in that ghoulish phase. I don't think I ever outgrew it though. So pretty indicative. Yes. Ok. I'm a princess. I was three years old, I think in the photo that we can show my grandma who's still alive today, actually made this costume and that's of course on the porch in front of my childhood home. And so many good memories from that Halloween and so many others as well. Why do you guys stick with these costumes because we got dressed up so much as kids are these the ones that stuck out to? I think so. Actually, the hardest part was finding a broom who has a broom these days. I have a broom at home. I was told, um, I'm very old school. Maybe that's the witch in me. I mean, that's true. All right. Well, Michelle, I know obviously you're a fan of all things as spooky. And you recently visited a Halloween attraction in the middle of New York City. That's right. It's called Dreams of Dracula and immersive masquerade experience. And it's only for the very brave take a look. Ram Stroker's influence. Character Dracula is the star of this new show where the audience can immerse themselves in the action. And while it's a play don't expect to stay seated, you arrive, there are no, you know, velvet seats that fold out. Um You know, you wander through the space, you see different things in different places. As I walk through Dreams of Dracula. I was greeted by many characters. Don't be surprised if you find yourself running into a vampire or being trailed by a ghoul like spirit. Something is lurking around every corner. You at a time have to follow the action of the play. So the brides of Dracula, for instance, might start a dance number on the main dance floor and then travel into what we've called the crypt area. You may meet and be greeted by some of the ghosts that occupy this space. Oscar Wilde hosts a salon where you may find author Mary Shelley or Bram Stoker himself. You are free to traverse back in full at your own will. But there is much mischief magic and mayhem that awaits you. The stage is all around you at all times. If you want follow Dracula around and just see what Dracula does. You can literally follow Dracula from room to room and see what happens. I caught up with performer Emma Ivey who plays Mina, a Victorian era woman who is tempted by a vampire. I definitely have some vampire moments and it's really exciting to get to play between the human and the vampire and sort of being torn between both worlds. It's inspired her portrayal, including her favorite dance sequence. Nina stays on the main dance floor and just has a moment of like giving into like the hire in the venom and it's really quiet and there's only usually a couple of people who stay and really connect with the character. Be prepared to be pulled aside from your group. You may end up like me doing a guided meditation with Van Helsing. You sense a part of yourself with each inhale and exhale fading or in the middle of your own dance number. There's so many things happening at one time in the stairwells in the back corners. So really taking the time to follow your and follow what's drawing you is uh I think what makes it special, there's two different shows every night. So you can stay for one experience or indulge in the whole thing. Guests can wear all black or choose something a bit more opulent, fancy formal clothes as befitting like a vampire masquerade. And then also as we get closer to Halloween, if people have elegant costumes they want to wear, that's also very much encouraged and get ready to give in to the creatures of the night for Cheddar news. I'm Michelle Castillo that looked pretty spooky on the show. We got to say. But if you're looking for a Halloween activity that more child friendly, what about making some homemade spooky sweet treats? Joining us now is the park Principal Baker at FT I del Thank you so much. We got a great spread here. I show how to make a zombie Pusheen. Let's get to it. But definitely the best one for kids. You wanna grab your push off. I go for it. Ok? And then you're gonna pop in one of your cake and a tablespoon of the slime. Well, I call it zombie blood because I just love gross. So do I just like scoop it up? You can use that just so you don't make and then put another with the slime on top and you keep building it up till you get the stickers And if you're really good and you, you know, don't mind your kid making a little mess. Look at that of eating it like slowly and layer by layer cos that's the gross springs onto the kids. Go for it. Let's talk about the bat brownies. How do we decorate them here? We got this bat design. Yeah, this is so fun. So you've got your templates. Each step is color coded and uh pictured for you. You wanna hold this? Do you wanna do this? So we pop the little back templates that I've cut out straight on top and then shake, shake, shake, shake, shake. How clever you got a little shake all over the corner. Some shake. Yes, it needs a little shake. OK. And then do you want it? You got gloves so slowly lift this up. Yeah, I hope you have a little bit. You can do that with all of them. You can change the template if you want or the color of the brownie. That's fine. We have cupcakes. How do you make them spooky? I am going to give you all one. Bring your little monster to life. Here's some butter cream. You can squiggle it, you can dollop it. You can do crazy little things. We had this monster mall that you get to pick and create all your own little facial p pieces of chocolate. I love that too. I made them for you earlier. You pick what you want like there's some crazy smiles too in there and then let me help you out. Thank you. And you just have fun with it around like that. I try to make like love making yummy things. Right. You can pop your eye. Thank you this morning. We've replicated our favorite childhood costumes and time now for some of our Halloween headlines. All right. Well, one of the best parts of Halloween, of course is the candy. But did you know that every state has its own favorite? Yes. Well, thanks to candy store dot com, we've got the breakdown. So, since we're wearing our childhood costumes, we figured that we share which candy is the most popular from the States where we grew up and trick or treat it. So let's start in the Midwest. That's where I'm from. And the most popular candy in the Hawkeye State is the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Maybe. No surprise. A classic. A classic. And I know you grew up in Queens, New York and the most popular candy is M and M and MS. No surprise there either. I think these are classics. Absolutely. All right, Michelle, the most popular candy, of course, in California where you're from Sour Patch kids. Those are pretty tasty. They definitely. Are you a fan? I, I know, I think we're gonna be fighting over these. I am a Reese's Peanut Butter fan. I have to admit you can see it here. Um, but I think I'll be going in on the sour patch kids as well. I have to say, I bet you these three are one of the top, like one of the favorites for all kids even now. It's really long time. Those are pretty sour. I do love, there's something about a sour patch kid. Those are mini M and M, those are mini M and MS. All right. So we were having this debate, the houses when we were growing up, they gave out the full size candy bars. Those are the ones that went for. The one, those were my favorite houses. The one who gave the full size chocolate bar, the full size Skittles Skittles, by the way, that's very good. This is a very good one. I also a big fan of Kit Kats or W I do love Snickers bars. Whoppers. That who do, who are Halloween? Now? That's, that's a prize commodity. Yes, it is. If you're looking for some scary movies to stream this Halloween, we've got you covered here are three of the latest first, a new release on Peacock five nights at Freddy's in space on a popular video game. The video game is very scary. By the way, it follows a night time security guard at an entertainment center where the mascots are deadly. Next, a sci fi horror movie. It's called The Mill, which is about a businessman who wakes up alone in an open air prison cell with no idea. Of his past, it's available on Hulu and finally a time travel slasher film called Totally Killer. About a girl who travels back to 1987 when a serial killer is on the loose that's streaming on Amazon Prime now. And ladies, what's your favorite spooky season movie? I'll start with mine. I just love this movie. It's, it's scary. It's funny. It's the scream franchise. I think it's my, I don't think I know it's my favorite movie, especially this one with Drew Barrymore. Friend of Chatters, by the way, started the movie. This is a classic and people of all ages to love this. I love the reboot right now. That's the reboot is great too. Yeah, that's a great pick. Now, when it comes to me, my favorite horror movies, it's a tie between Stanley Kubrick's classic horror, The Shining and Scotts Alien, which I'm a huge fan of both strong female leads, but also kind of about relationships in a weird way. So I think of that until you said it, it is very relationship driven, who is relationship, who relationship, which translates into a lot of real live as well. Oh, yes, I think that's true as well. All right. I was a fan. Maybe. No surprise of Hocus Pocus with Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Cathy Jimmy. I hope I'm saying her name right. I got to admit I'm not, I'm kind of a, I get scared really easily but I loved this movie growing up, I, I just watched this movie last week and I still love it. Yeah, it's good. All right.
