Nick Carter talks Backstreet Boys legacy, touring and Cure 4 The Kids Foundation.

Carter also talked about his involvement with the Cure 4 the Kids Foundation out of Las Vegas, which is committed to curing and preventing childhood diseases. </div>

Be Well: Nick Carter Talks Backstreet Boys Legacy, Cure 4 the Kids Foundation

Our first guest is a member of one of the most famous boy bands of all time whose hits include, I want it that way and quit playing games with my heart. It's hard not to say that Backstreet boy, Nick Carter is now taking some time away from the group to go solo with his, who am I tour and just released his new single, Superman, Nick Carter. Welcome to the show. Thank you for having me. It's so great to see you. It's been 30 years since the Backstreet Boys hit the music scene. Like how is that possible? A long time? Yeah, it's uh it's definitely been a long uh road and uh and um it's, it's crazy because right now everything that's happening uh in the world. Uh you know, people are really searching for uh you know, that, that those feel good times and nostalgic music and, you know, with the resurgence of what just happened recently with N Sync, you know, on, on, on MTV and us just coming off of a four year tour. Um It's just, it just feels like a really good time uh for music and to be a part of that story. Well, what do you attribute to your longevity and music? Because most groups, they don't last this long anytime there's more than one person in the group. So how did you all do it? I, I just think we love what we do uh as entertainers. Um And we love our music. Uh Every time we get on that stage and we were performing two hours, you know, of our lives, we know that other people are also sharing their lives with us too and spending their hard earned money. And our, our goal really is, you know, that they leave with that feeling that, you know, everything that, that time that they got was worth it. And they, they were entertained and they were able to escape from the, the outside crazy world. So, I mean, I just think it's just the fact that we, we know that um you know, we love our fans. Um and we also uh love music and those, those things as well as our camaraderie within the band as well. You know, we're five brothers, you know, we've been together, we've been through thick and thin together and, you know, we love each other. So all those uh I think put together, create this, this uh amazing story of just um resilience and longevity. Yeah. And I know you guys recently just celebrated Howie's 50th birthday. Like, how do you wrap your head around those kind of milestones that you're all now starting to hit together. Yeah. 50. Um that's that there was a great party. We went down to uh the palmas with him. Um You know what they say like, you know, 50 is the new 40. I don't know. So, uh but or 30 I don't even know anymore. Um But it's just those moments uh for us to share our birthdays together, share our weddings together, to share the birth of our Children together. Um All those things we have together. I've had Kevin, you know, he, his wife, you know, was there for the birth of my son. Um You know, when, when he first came into the world. So, um those are all stories and, and memories that we've, we've shared. So is it gonna be hard for you to take some time away to go on your own tour? The who am I tour and what can we expect? Yeah. So the, the who am I tour is really about the music that inspired me to be the artist that I am today. Uh So 1980 January 28th, 1980 I was born, uh which is the same birthday as Joey Patton, which is really random. But we talk about that all the time. Uh But all that music, I was the kind of I was the kid who was sitting, you know, on the floor watching TV, with knobs, you know, a black and white TV and watching MTV. And all that music inspired me. Uh And um so I'm performing a lot of that music in this show, uh Breakfast Club era music, uh you know, uh Hall and Notes, uh Tears For Fears. And then also I'm doing Backstreet Boy songs and then doing some of the, the new solo songs that I've just uh released and written. So, um I, I think it's just like it, it's a good time out. It's a little different than what we do with Backstreet Boys because when we're on tour, um and we just got off this four year tour, which was thankfully grateful, you know, that it was so good. Um And I always know that we're blessed to do that. Um You know, it's different, you know, we're, we're singing, we're dancing, we, we have a very big catalog, you know, but as a solo artist, you know, I can write the music that I wanna write, I can say the things I wanna say. Um and perform the music that I wanna perform. And I like to be in a little bit more intimate venues, you know, that way I could see the crowd, you know, because we just got off, you could do arenas and 20,000 people and that's great. But there's nothing like just getting on stage with a guitar and a live band and performing music. So you take that set list. I love it. I'm like, right away, I just, I'm like, that's my time too. Yeah. No, totally. You know, I, I think that's kind of like the same thing with, like, the, the younger generation right now is, um, they're, they're trying to go back and to find things that, you know, to learn things and to, uh, be inspired by stuff from the past. You know, it's the whole cycle. Well, that's the same thing for us, you know, from the eighties kids, you know, they, they were inspired by the, the, those movies that, that music, you know, that there was no coincidence that stranger things was such a success, you know. And, uh, II, I just think it's just, you know, it's the stuff that I literally play in my car right now and that I'm inspired by, you have three kids. Is it hard being on tour or have you figured out a way to just make this work? Um, I, I, it's a little easier when I'm on tour with the boys, you know, we'll go to other countries, we'll go all around the world. Um, I decided to, to do this tour, you know, music is therapeutic. Um, you know, get on the road, just perform, have fun. But then at the same time, you know, be close to my family. I, it's kind of like a little bit of like, you, you see the country music artist, they'll, they'll do that. They'll be like, ok, we'll just do like three songs, you know, out of, out of the week and then I can fly back home and be with the kids if I, if you want to. And so that's kind of how I set it up so that I could be close to home, so, so to speak. But facetime definitely helps, you know, checking in with all the kids. So did the kids get into that music, bone music skills like you have? Are they, what if they said they wanted to go into the music business and be rock stars? Like you don't do it? No, no, no, no. But my middle daughter, Saoirse, she's into, uh, she loves music, she loves singing. Um, but every time I pick up the guitar and I try to play the guitar because I'm like, baby, I, I have to practice before I go on the road. Um, she's like, she'll, she's like, no, no, don't, don't play it. She gets really emotional over it. She has big feelings over those. Uh, and, and then, um, but then she'll go and she'll play on my electronic drum set and she'll just be rocking out on the drum set with these big earphones on. So she loves, she loves music. Um, my middle daughter and my youngest daughter as well, they're always singing. Let it go, obviously. And you have a Christmas or Holiday song coming out. Um, uh, I actually did a special song. Um, I've been working with a foundation in Las Vegas for, for years now, uh, they're called Cure for the Kids. And what they do is they, they focus on helping families who, who can't afford, uh, care for a child who has cancer. Um, and so they completely take care of it. They cover it completely and, um, and then also the surrounding States as well and they're growing as time is going on. But, um, I got an opportunity to work with them again and we re uh re-recorded, uh covered John Lennon's. The war is over. And the idea and then we shot a music video as well and that will come out to towards the end during the holidays. But the idea is that uh, once a child beats cancer, the war is over. So I'm really excited for people to see that. Let's throw our beautiful calls. Now, we can't let you go without asking after your tour is over. What's next for Backstreet Boys. So, uh right now we have uh a little bit of a break. It was a long 44 year tour, but we do have uh Cancun um in April next year. Uh, we do uh a destination for people who want to come and see a show. Uh spend like four days, you know, on the beach, you know, do events and activities and all these types of things. So you uh that's for sale right now. So, um sometimes we'll do cruises or whatever. But uh it's just fun for the fans and I'm getting a lot of calls from people and be like, you know, hey, I'm coming down to Cancun. I'm gonna be joining you on this. I'm like, I'm like, what are you doing? Like, like, no, you're, you're my friend. I don't want you to come to this event. So, no, it's, it's um it, it's fun. It's just a cool get away.
